Communication is the pedestal of the learning path. This implies that every lesson, activity or project on active citizenship in reception education stimulates pupils to strengthen their communication skills. After all, learning to live together cannot be successful without competences in intercultural, non-violent and digital communication as well as striving to lower the barriers that can create noise in communication.
Within reception education, the focus is mostly on Dutch language acquisition. Based on the GO! vision on active citizenship and multilingualism, we developed a broad base that, in addition to many links with the linguistic goals of reception education, emphasizes communicative competencies with attention to the strength and importance of the pupils’ home language.
