Vision
There’s a lot going on in a class for reception education. There is no lack of life experiences, diversity, dreams and talents. There is also a good dose of resilience. Nevertheless, the majority of these young people are in a socially vulnerable position. This makes working on Active Citizenship in reception education extra challenging.
Within GO!, working on Active Citizenship means building an inclusive society together. In order to fully implement this inclusivity thinking in practice, we start from an empowerment approach for Active Citizenship in reception education. This approach aims to improve negative aspects of a situation by focusing on the forces within the individual and his/her environment and environmental influences. It is a positive and proactive approach and requires a bottom-up approach. The realisation of full active citizenship is the central and ultimate goal.
In the vision text, we make explicit what we mean by coaching young people in active citizenship from an empowerment approach.
